Android app design agencies

Agencies with real Android depth — from Kotlin specialists to teams shipping across foldables and Wear OS — with what each is genuinely built for.

00 The brief

Android is the harder platform to design for, and it gets a fraction of the attention.

Your app has to hold together across a decade of OS versions, dozens of screen sizes, manufacturer skins that override your assumptions, and hardware ranging from flagship to barely capable. Material Design gives you a foundation, but the real work is deciding what degrades gracefully when the device cannot keep up. That difficulty is why so many agencies quietly treat Android as an iOS port with different buttons, and why the ones below, which do not, are worth the search. If your growth is outside North America and Western Europe, this is not your second platform. It is your only one.

Droids On Roids

Named for the platform, and it has the Android depth to justify it.

the gist
A Wrocław studio building Android products since 2011, with recognised Kotlin and Android expertise and a range that runs across phones, tablets, foldables, wearables, TVs, and cars. It offers a two-week trial where you keep the code if you walk, which is a rare structure and a fair way to test a partner. It joined European consultancy Apadmi in 2025, and some client reviews since then flag project management and communication slipping, so ask about team continuity.
best known for
Work for CCC, Carlsberg, Giphy, Sarwa, and RespireAI, with open-source libraries used by engineering teams at Facebook, WhatsApp, and TikTok.
core strengths
Android and Kotlin development, product design, cross-platform Flutter and React Native, product discovery, QA.
reach out if
Android is your primary platform and you want a team that treats it that way.
details
Founded 2011 · Wrocław, Poland · Part of Apadmi since 2025 · Minimum project around $75,000.

Clay Global

Android products at the scale where fragmentation stops being theoretical.

the gist
Clay's work sits with products carrying very large and very varied user bases, which on Android means designing for a device spread rather than a reference handset. It runs research-led UX with brand in the same studio, and design systems are a core service, which matters more on Android than iOS because your components have to survive more variation.
best known for
App and interface work for Google, Amazon, Snapchat, Slack, Coinbase, and Sony.
core strengths
Android app UX and UI, design systems, product strategy, UX research, brand identity.
reach out if
Your Android user base is large and heterogeneous and the design has to hold up across all of it.
details
Global, remote-first, San Francisco HQ, NY office at 148 Lafayette St · Independent.
// 03

Miquido

Android engineering with a serious Flutter practice alongside it.

the gist
A Kraków studio pairing product design with native Android and cross-platform delivery, and one of the few with a genuinely deep Flutter capability rather than a line on the services page. Its telecom work is the useful proof point, since carrier apps face the widest device spread of anything in consumer software. Mid-market European pricing.
best known for
250-plus products for Warner, Dolby, Abbey Road Studios, Skyscanner, and TUI, plus native apps for Polish operator Play reaching six million users.
core strengths
Android app design and development, Flutter and cross-platform, product strategy, UX/UI, AI and data.
reach out if
You want native Android or a credible cross-platform build without US agency rates.
details
Founded 2011 · Kraków HQ, plus London, Berlin, Zürich · Independent.

Fantasy

Interface work close to the platform itself.

the gist
Fantasy has spent more than 25 years on large-scale digital products including mobile operating systems, which is a different kind of experience from designing apps that sit on top of one. Its client relationships with Google and Samsung put it near the platform rather than merely on it. The house style is visually assertive, which suits consumer and entertainment products and overreaches on a utility.
best known for
Product work for Google, Samsung, Netflix, Spotify, and 23andMe.
core strengths
Product design, UX, interaction design, AI experiences, brand.
reach out if
You are building a high-visibility Android product and want design that makes an impression.
details
San Francisco and New York · Independent.
// 05

Mission Control

Senior product design, platform-agnostic by temperament.

the gist
A small remote team designing apps and complex digital products for startups and growth-stage technology companies, with capped concurrent engagements so principals stay on the work. Worth considering when the hard part of your product is the logic rather than the platform conventions.
best known for
A low public profile by design, with no published client list, so this is one to judge on the portfolio.
core strengths
Product and app design, UI/UX, design strategy.
reach out if
You want senior design attention on a complicated product without agency overhead.
details
Fully remote, asynchronous-first · Independent.

ArcTouch

Android across the devices Android actually runs on.

the gist
ArcTouch has shipped over 500 apps since 2008 across phones, tablets, TVs, wearables, and voice, which maps neatly onto Android's sprawl beyond the handset. If your product needs a Wear OS companion or an Android TV app alongside the phone, that is one team rather than three procurement processes. Acquired by WPP in 2016 and part of AKQA.
best known for
Apps for 3M, Audi, CBS, NBC, Hawaiian Airlines, McCormick, PayPal, and Tile.
core strengths
Android app design and development, connected and IoT experiences, UX/UI, product strategy, design systems.
reach out if
Your Android product extends past the phone and you want one partner across the devices.
details
Founded 2008 · San Francisco HQ, plus New York, Austin, Toronto, London · 350+ people · Part of WPP, joined AKQA in 2016.

Netguru

Design plus Android engineering volume.

the gist
A large Polish product and software firm pairing product design with substantial engineering headcount, working as an embedded partner from startup through enterprise. The right call when the constraint is capacity rather than craft, and when a ten-person studio would stall on the size of the build.
best known for
Long-running product design and development engagements across SaaS, fintech, and enterprise clients.
core strengths
Product design, UX/UI, mobile and web development, digital consulting.
reach out if
You need Android design and real engineering volume from one partner.
details
Founded 2008 · Poznań, Poland, publicly listed.
// 08

MetaLab

Consumer products that shipped Android as a first-class version.

the gist
MetaLab designed interfaces for products that became defaults, and the relevant point for Android is that its house approach is subtractive. Fewer elements and clearer hierarchy travel better across a wide device spread than dense, decorative layouts do, because there is less to break when the screen shrinks or the hardware struggles. It works from strategy through engineering rather than handing over comps.
best known for
Early interface work for Slack, Coinbase, and Uber Eats, plus product work for Apple, Disney, and Google.
core strengths
Product design, UI/UX, prototyping, engineering, design systems.
reach out if
You want benchmark-quality product design and Android is a primary version rather than an afterthought.
details
Founded 2006 · Victoria, BC, remote-first with teams across roughly 19 countries · Independent.

hedgehog lab

Complex and regulated Android work, from the UK.

the gist
A digital product consultancy of nearly two decades, hedgehog lab designs and builds mobile apps alongside data, cloud, and AI work, leaning toward sectors where reliability and compliance weigh as heavily as interface craft. A sensible pick when your Android app has to satisfy a regulator as well as a user.
best known for
App and product work across financial services, energy, and government, including the AJ Bell Dodl investing app.
core strengths
Mobile app design and development, product strategy, data and AI, cloud.
reach out if
Your Android product is regulated or technically complex and needs depth beyond design.
details
Founded 2007 · Newcastle, UK · Independent.

Bottle Rocket

Brand apps across Android and the screens around it.

the gist
An early app-era studio that has launched more than 300 mobile, streaming, wearable, and connected TV experiences, working mostly with established consumer brands. It approaches an app as part of a wider ecosystem rather than a standalone product, which fits companies with an existing customer base better than founders on a first release. Now over 1,100 people inside WPP.
best known for
Apps for Coca-Cola, Chick-fil-A, Southwest Airlines, Mary Kay, and Baylor Scott & White.
core strengths
Mobile app design and development, connected TV and wearables, product strategy, research and insights.
reach out if
You are an established brand and Android is one screen among several you need covered.
details
Founded 2008 · Dallas HQ with global delivery · 1,100+ people · Part of the WPP network.

Android app design, answered

Is Android design just iOS design with different components?+
No, and the agencies that treat it that way produce apps that feel borrowed. The differences are structural: Android has a system back affordance that your navigation has to respect, Material Design's elevation and motion language carries meaning, and manufacturer skins change how your app renders on a large share of real devices. The tell is an agency that shows you one design and says it works on both. Ask what they changed for Android and why.
How do we handle device fragmentation without the budget doubling?+
Decide your device floor before design starts, not during QA. Pick the minimum OS version and hardware tier you will support based on your actual analytics rather than instinct, then design so the experience degrades sensibly below that rather than breaking. The expensive mistake is designing for a flagship and discovering late that a third of your users are on hardware that cannot render it smoothly. Testing on real low-end devices, not just emulators, should be in the scope from the start.
Should we launch iOS first or Android first?+
Follow your market, not convention. North American and Western European consumer products often justify iOS first on revenue per user. Almost everywhere else, and for most B2B, logistics, and field-workforce products, Android is where your users are and going second means going late. If you are launching in India, Southeast Asia, Africa, or Latin America, iOS first is usually a mistake dressed up as a phased rollout.
What does Android app design cost?+
Design-only work on a focused app commonly starts in the tens of thousands. Design and build to a Play Store release runs into six figures for anything substantial, with European studios like Miquido, Netguru, and Droids On Roids materially below US rates for comparable quality. Budget more for testing than you would on iOS, because the device matrix is real work rather than a formality, and agree upfront which physical devices are in scope.
Is Google Play review easier than App Store review?+
Generally faster and less discretionary, which lulls teams into complacency. Google's enforcement tends to arrive later and harder, through policy changes, permission restrictions, and automated removals that can take an app down with limited warning. Data safety declarations, permissions, and target API level requirements are the common causes. An experienced Android partner will keep you ahead of the annual API deadlines rather than reacting to them.
Do we need Wear OS, Android TV, or Auto?+
Rarely at launch, but the answer shapes your architecture. Android's spread beyond the phone is wider than Apple's and the surfaces are more varied, so if a companion or car experience is plausible within two years, designing the information architecture with that in mind costs little now and a great deal later. ArcTouch and Bottle Rocket work across these surfaces; the smaller studios here mostly do not.
